Editor in Chief & President

Lauren Fakhoury

Lauren is a senior from Southern Illinois studying History and Economics with a minor in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. She joined the ULR as a writer in her first year at NYU before serving as treasurer and now EIC and President. Beyond the ULR, she is also Vice President of the NYU Journal of Medicine and Law and Writing Director for the American Public Policy Review. Outside of publications, she is a research assistant for a Journalism Department project focused on modern institutions’ ties to slavery and a volunteer coordinator with Give Where You Live. After NYU, she hopes to attend law school and become a public defender.

Vice President

Violet Lahde

iolet is a junior and presidential scholar from San Jose, California, double-majoring in English and Politics on the pre-law track. She began as an associate editor and member of the business team, and previously served as the Legal Public Square Director. Outside of ULR, she has been interning at the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Southern District of New York in the Civil Rights and Human Trafficking Unit, where she will continue her career over the summer. She has also pursued internships at the District Attorney’s Office, New York City Council, and law firms across the country. At NYU, she is a part of the admissions ambassadors cohort, the national Mock Trial Team as an attorney, Varsity Moot Court, ULS, and other publications. Ultimately, she is passionate about gender and cultural equity within the law and hopes to take this passion after law school toward becoming a federal prosecutor in sex crimes.

Secretary

Liyana Illyas

Liyana is a senior from New Jersey studying Politics and Journalism at CAS, with a minor in Public Health.

She has been involved in the ULR for two years, serving as an Associate Editor, and is excited to continue serving the role of Secretary. Her legal interests include civil rights, media law, and advocacy for underrepresented communities. Outside the ULR, she previously served as Deputy News Editor for WSN and is involved in numerous on-campus organizations, including Phi Alpha Delta, the Muslim Students Association, the Multifaith Advisory Council, and more. She also has internship experience within law, communications, and research. In her free time, she enjoys singing, playing guitar and piano, reading, cooking, and trying new matcha spots.

Treasurer

Keven Cavalcante

Keven is a junior in CAS from Miami, Florida double majoring in Philosophy and Economics. He’s been with ULR for two semesters as an Associate Editor––first on the LPS team and then outside submissions. Last semester, he interned at Sacco & Fillas, where he analyzed a database of 28 construction contracts across a $10M+ portfolio to support damage calculations in a professional malpractice case. This summer, he is interning as a paralegal at a Miami immigration law firm, preparing employment authorization applications and working directly on asylum cases. On campus, Keven served as a Senator on the NYU Student Government Assembly for Liberal Studies and now as Senator for Study Away and Transfer/Non-Traditional Entry students. Also, in his role as Senator, he sits on the University Senate Financial Committee, where he reviews and works to ensure student needs are represented in NYU’s financial and budgetary policies alongside senior administration. As Treasurer, he hopes to bring the same careful attention to detail he has developed in legal and financial work to keep ULR running smoothly behind the scenes.

LPS Director

Haley Tran

Haley is a pre-law junior from Princeton Junction, New Jersey, majoring in Politics and minoring in Public Policy. She has been part of ULR for two semesters, beginning as a Staff Writer for the Legal Public Square before becoming an Associate Editor. At NYU, she serves as the President of the Stern Business and Law Association and writes for In the Zeitgeist. Outside of school, she has interned in a Congresswoman’s office handling constituent casework and worked as a Paralegal for the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition. Through her coursework, extracurriculars, and professional experiences, she hopes to explore the intersection of law, business, and policy to pursue antitrust litigation.

Tarunya Dharmarajan

Tarunya is a sophomore at Gallatin studying CS, AI, and Public Policy on the pre-law track. She previously served on the business team of ULR and wrote articles for the Legal Public Square. Outside of ULR, she serves as co-founder and Director of Events/Logistics at PETAL, NYU’s first and only student-run tech policy club. She is also part of NYU Model UN, NYU APPR, and NYU Shruti. Professionally, she has interned across tech policy organizations such as the Consumer Federation of America, ConnectSafely, and the Atticus Project. She is passionate about bridging the gap between law and technology, hoping to use policy as a means for cultivating safer innovation in the future.
